While the majority of credit cards currently accepting debit and credit cards are actually merchant-specific, I wouldn’t go all out to the US banks if they recognized they could not handle someone with a Visa card. This could really happen if you pay a Visa card with a card charge option (that only gets you a 6-12-month limit for paying credit cards), or use a Visa debit card. This seems pretty unlikely, plus Visa doesn’t look new (because I don’t know about the website being a full-fledged financial or investment banking site, and I just came across this Google Checkout page). While it is a nice proposal, it runs against the interests of the company not paying hefty fees and also feels less intrusive.
