The first topic you will see on the exam is Discrete Mathematics. The first type of problem you will face on this section is a quadratic equation. In this section, you will have to solve for the roots of the polynomial, and then find the solutions for all the terms involved in the equation. These include the coefficients (x), the x-intercepts (y), and the multiplications (a) and times (p). Here, you should know that even though there are 12 categories in the table, only six of them are used in the actual exam.
The second section is a multiple choice question. In this section, you will be asked to compare the results of two different answers. For instance, in the example above, if your answer is “three times five” in unit one, you compare the answer of “three times four” in unit two. You can also compare the results of “three times five” and “three times four” in unit three.
The third section of the exam consists of a free-response questions. You are not required to use your graphing calculator in this section, but you will need it if you choose to take a calculator home afterwards. The free-response questions are identical to those found in section 1, and you will also be given an opportunity to select one of the two answers that the question generator chooses for you.
Once you have passed the entire exam, you will be mailed your final exam score. This is the score that represents your passing grade. Once you earn credit, you will be asked to complete a short practice exam. This part of the exam does not test your ability to solve problems using the calculators in class. Rather, it tests your understanding of the concepts taught in class and how quickly you can grasp the material based on your skills.
If you take the BCBA with a tutor, you can expect to spend about three hours reviewing the topics found in lecture. Of course, much of this time will be spent developing a strategy for memorizing the key terms and concepts you will learn in class. By studying with a tutor, you can also improve your chances of passing the exam by reducing the number of weak questions that will appear on the exam.
